Off of mile marker 355.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is State Road 128, which takes you to Mount Mitchell. Mount Mitchell is 6,684 feet high, and is the highest point east of the Mississippi River. They have a lookout tower up there which provides really good views of the surrounding area. You might be wondering how I knew all the mileage markers. Make sure to stop at a visitor center along the road to get a map of the entire parkway. It has very detailed information of the sights along it. One thing I like about this road is that it has limited access. No trucks are allowed on it. It also has trees lining it. You can't tell when you go through a town. It's like your out in the middle of nowhere, which I happen to like.
